Reflecting the Lisbon criteria and the overarching objective of building the European Research Area [ERA], there is a need to develop a more accurate understanding of the role of R&D with respect to the dynamics of companies and certain economic sectors, since this is the basis for sound, evidence-based support to policy making.

This conference, by bringing together leading research practitioners and policy analysts on the issue, seeks to take stock of current understanding, explore new developments in the field, and provide an integrated picture accordingly.
The main objectives of the Conference will be:
- To provide a platform for discussing corporate R&D
- To bring the community of EU researchers and policy analysts together, sharing their specific knowledge on the subject
- To outline emerging issues for further investigation of corporate R&D
The Conference is being organised jointly by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre - Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (link), and Directorate-General for Research (link) .
